This artisan-made, handcrafted mug stein was specially designed and created for Wet The Face by Amy Schnitzer, our new pottery artisan.
This mug was made from rich, brown stoneware. It was hand-thrown in the USA on a potter’s wheel, trimmed, and textured. Finally, a hand-pulled handle and "WTF" plaque were attached. Once fired, it was glazed with "Blue Dawn", created by the late ceramic artist and teacher Janet Holdcrafton, on the inside as well as the rim and handle for maximum comfort when drinking. The outside features a light wash of red iron oxide to bring out the texture in the raw clay. It was then fired to cone 6 in oxidation to provide the unique look and feel that you see here.

Amy Schnitzer:
Amy’s pottery is functional, meaning it’s meant to be used. She focuses on form, which is key to functional work because handles need to be comfortable, lids need to fit, and bowls and plates need to stack. Her work is predominantly fired in atmospheric kilns – gas reduction, salt, and wood. She works with 8-10 different clay bodies at any given time to achieve the vastly different results they produce.
In addition to being a maker, she is also a marketer. Leveraging her vast experience in the public and private sectors, she supports a roster of maker & small business owner clients for whom she provides the marketing services needed to achieve their business goals.
